Promoter Modulation

Gene expression is turned off and on by the binding of repressor (silencer) and activator (enhancer) proteins to the promoter region of the DNA. Gene expression can be increased by interfering with the binding of a repressor protein or decreased by interfering with the binding of an activator protein. Alcyone is developing technology to inhibit the silencer and enhancers from engaging the promoter or attract the silencer and enhancers to the promotor region for increased engagement, thereby impacting gene expression.
